Conveyor Connecting Bracket

I designed and manufactured a removable bracket that secures a conveyor to a box machine.

This bracket was a design project assigned to me at Lozier by my direct supervisor. The motivation behind the project came from the manufacturing plant where the conveyor was being used. It was a versatile conveyor in that it could be moved to a desired angle and position, the only issue was that there was no way to securely attach the conveyor to the actual machine. After analyzing the issue, I came up with this design shown above.

There are two aspects to this design that make it unique. The first is the hem in the rear of the bracket, which sat snug on the box machine. This feature ensured that the bracket could stay rigid when being pulled on, and it was still easily removable. The next interesting design idea was the snap on feature. The arm like profile of the bracket allowed for just the right amount of deflection so that it could fit around the yellow conveyor bar. This gave a strong connection that did not detach when bumped.

The project overall was a simple, yet important design for Lozier. It allowed for a secure connection that was still easily removable if the conveyor needed to move. Along with that, the deflection in the bracket was calculated so that the part would not wear out if it was constantly taken off and put back on.
